The MU Respiratory Care Program now offers a satellite school for a Bachelor of Health Science degree in Respiratory Care at the St. Louis campus located at St. Johns Mercy Medical Center.
Students who apply to the MU Respiratory Therapy (MURT) school must have completed general education requirements and be college sophomores in good standing. Certain requirements may be waived for those applicants with a previous degree. The general education and pre-requisite courses (also shown on the Sample Curriculum) required by the school may be completed at any accredited college/university with the approval of the University of Missouri Respiratory Therapy School Director.
Students wishing to apply for a Fall 2009 entry should request an application in late October 2008. The application deadline for the professional phase of the Respiratory Therapy School is February 1. See more about admission to the MURT program
Applications are considered on a competitive basis for each admission period. The Respiratory Care Admissions Committee governs the selection process. Contact the school director, Shawna Strickland, for more details on the application process.
DEGREE INFORMATION
The University of Missouri Respiratory Therapy School consists of two years of prerequisite course work plus a two-year (six-semester) professional phase. The six-semester professional phase is offered both on the Columbia campus in Columbia, Missouri and at our satellite site, St. John's Mercy Medical Center in St. Louis, Missouri. Each year approximately 12-16 students are accepted into the RT Program at the Columbia campus; an additional 4-8 students are accepted at the satellite campus at St. John's. Applications are available the first week in October and applications for admission to the professional phase are due February 1 (winter semester of your sophomore year). Transfer guides are available for many of the accredited public/private colleges, universities, and community colleges in Missouri. Each guide lists the courses that will transfer to meet the MURT school's prerequisite requirements.
